Quality Measures

MAGMA Result: Time to Solidification
Glidewell prides itself on quality. Many quality checks are done from order placement to completion. Gating and risering design is accomplished using MAGMAsoft software. This is done to ensure a casting to be free of shrinkage and internal porosity.


Mechanical Lab
Every pound of metal poured at Glidewell is traceable. There is a chemical and physical test specimen poured on every heat. Chemical specimens are tested with a Leco Carbon/Sulfur Determinator and a 19 element Spectrometer. Physical properties are tested with standardized ASTM test bars. They are tested on a Tinius Olsen Universal Tensile Testing Machine. All chemical and physical results are stored electronically and can be accessed at any time.

Since the microstructure of the metal poured indicates the properties of the iron, microstructure is an important quality check. A microstructure sample is taken from the physical test bar. It is polished then analyzed on an Olympus microscope. Image analysis can be preformed on each microstructure.
